WORKING WITH HORSES
Australia is a country built on horse culture. For this reason the industry has diversified into a range of equine disciplines for work and pleasure. You’ll get to experience a new way of working with horses by travelling to the other side of the world. Learn how the Aussies do it with their terrain, climate, facilities, techniques and of course, unique Australian stock horses.
The horse world is small and it’s not unusual for you to get friendly with many different contacts in the equine world. It’s very common to return at a later date to work for a friend or acquaintance of your former employer.
RACING AND THOROUGHBRED STUDS
As a groom at a thoroughbred stud, you’ll get to experience life in the glamorous lane whilst working with beautiful, valuable and precious horses.
You may get to witness some of the best equine events in the Australian calendar such as the Melbourne Cup and the famous Magic Millions horse sale.
EQUINE SPORTS
Working at an Australian eventing yard is a fantastic chance to get unique experience and make incredible contacts. This is a international sport and full of opportunity for the future. You’ll learn things the ‘Aussie way’ and if you’ve done this before, get the opportunity to build upon your existing knowledge and skills.
POLOCROSSE
Although polocrosse is an internationally recognised sport, you may not have heard of it before. This exciting team game is most typically described as a combination of polo and lacrosse where riders compete against each other on horseback.
This is a test of great skill and bravery. To play the game you use many cattlemen techniques such as sliding stops, turns and ferocious speed.
Exciting new industries that we’re currently working on:
CATTLE MUSTERING
Working on a cattle station as a real Aussie stockman could be one of the most exciting jobs you’ll ever have. It’ll make you realise what a real day’s work means and through lots of blood (hopefully only cattle blood), sweat and possibly tears, you’ll come out a stronger, experienced and a mature individual who has handled a lot more than you ever thought you could. These types of jobs change you forever and are a once in a lifetime opportunity.
TRAIL RIDING
A lot of Australia’s trail riding centres are situated in wonderful spots, attracting tourists to witness this beautiful land via horseback.
You could be working in amazing locations such as the breath-taking Blue Mountains region near Sydney, the famous Snowy Mountains on the Victoria border, or up in the tropics near the fantastic beaches in Cairns or Darwin.
Employ Equine is working on finding jobs with equine vets, rodeo and camp drafting breeders and riders, those competing in reining and driving, and those training horses with natural horsemanship. We’re interested in horsemanship, riding, handling and equine behaviour, and we know you are too.
